Vayu Mudra (Air Mudra)

Vāyu Mudrā

VAH-yoo moo-DRAHAir Gesture

The air element mudra that reduces Vata dosha, relieves joint pain, and calms the nervous system

Vayu Mudra (Air Mudra)

About This Mudra

Vayu Mudra is a therapeutic hand gesture that helps balance the air element (Vayu Tattva) in the body. According to Ayurvedic principles, excess Vayu (air) in the body leads to various disorders including joint pain, gas, bloating, restlessness, and nervous system imbalances. This mudra works by pressing down the index finger (which represents the air element) with the thumb, thereby reducing excess air in the system. It is particularly beneficial for those suffering from arthritis, rheumatism, gout, and Vata-related disorders. The ancient texts describe this mudra as a powerful remedy for diseases caused by air imbalance. Regular practice brings relief from pain, reduces anxiety, and calms an overactive mind. It is often combined with Prana Mudra for enhanced healing effects.
