Story Summary

King Parikshit, grandson of Arjuna, dies from the venomous bite of Takshaka, the serpent king. His son Janamejaya launches an unprecedented snake sacrifice to destroy all serpents. As thousands burn in the sacred fire, a brave young sage named Astika steps forward to stop the carnage. This is the story of how the Mahabharata came to be told.
