Story Summary

King Dhritarashtra, troubled by the prospect of war, sends his trusted advisor Sanjaya as an envoy to the Pandavas at Upaplavya. Sanjaya, known for his honesty and divine vision, travels to deliver Dhritarashtra's message and attempt the first formal peace negotiation. The Pandavas, led by Yudhishthira, express their willingness for peace but firmly insist on the rightful return of their kingdom. Sanjaya returns to Hastinapura with the Pandavas' response, but Duryodhana remains obstinate, refusing to negotiate or compromise. The first diplomatic effort fails, setting the stage for further peace attempts and ultimately making war more likely.
