Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7, Verse 3
मनुष्याणां सहस्रेषु कश्चिद्यतति सिद्धये | यततामपि सिद्धानां कश्चिन्मां वेत्ति तत्त्वतः ||
manuṣyāṇāṁ sahasreṣu kaścid yatati siddhaye yatatām api siddhānāṁ kaścin māṁ vetti tattvataḥ
Among thousands of humans, someone may strive for perfection. Even among those striving for perfection, someone may know Me in truth.
Krishna reveals the rarity of true understanding. 'Manuṣyāṇāṁ sahasreṣu'—among thousands of humans, 'kaścid yatati siddhaye'—someone strives for perfection. Most people don't even try. But even among those who do strive ('yatatām api siddhānām'), 'kaścin māṁ vetti tattvataḥ'—someone knows Me in truth. This isn't discouragement—it's reality. Most people are distracted by material life. Of those who seek, most seek material goals. Of those who seek spiritual goals, few truly understand. This verse sets up the theme of rarity—realizing Krishna is rare, but possible. It connects to verse 7.2's promise of complete knowledge and prepares for the detailed revelation of Krishna's nature in verses 7.4-7.7.
