Krishna explains how material nature works: 'Mama yonir mahad brahma'—My womb is the great Brahman (material nature/prakriti). 'Tasmin garbhaṁ dadhāmi aham'—in that I place the seed. This is the process of creation: Krishna (the Supreme) places the seed (the living entities/souls) into material nature (prakriti). 'Sambhavaḥ sarvabhūtānāṁ tato bhavati'—from that comes the birth of all beings. This verse reveals the relationship between the Supreme and material nature. Krishna is the source—He places the seed (souls) into material nature, and material nature, with its three gunas, creates all the forms of life. Understanding this helps you see that material nature is not independent—it's an instrument of the Supreme. The gunas are qualities of material nature, and they influence everything that comes from it. This sets up the next verses, which will explain how the three gunas manifest.
How this ancient wisdom applies to your daily life

Krishna reveals that material nature is the womb from which all forms come, but He is the source that places the seed. This means everything in your life—your body, your circumstances, your experiences—comes from material nature with its three gunas. But you, the soul, are placed into this material nature by the Supreme. Understanding this helps you see: you're not your body, not your circumstances, not your experiences. You're the soul experiencing material nature. The gunas influence everything material, but they don't define you. You're the seed placed in the womb of material nature. This recognition gives you perspective: you're experiencing the play of the gunas, but you're separate from them. This understanding is the foundation for transcending the gunas.

Do you identify with your body, your circumstances, or your experiences? How would understanding that you're the seed placed in material nature change how you see yourself and your life?
