About This Mudra

Akasha Mudra activates the space or ether element (Akasha Tattva), the most subtle of the five elements in Vedic philosophy. Space is the element that contains all other elements and provides the room for existence itself. The middle finger represents the space element, and by connecting it with the thumb, we increase the Akasha Tattva in our system. This mudra is particularly beneficial for ear-related problems, as the ear is associated with the space element in Ayurveda. It helps relieve hearing issues, tinnitus, and ear infections. Beyond physical benefits, Akasha Mudra expands consciousness, opens the mind to higher wisdom, and creates space for new insights and spiritual growth. It is said to detoxify the body by opening channels for the release of negative emotions and stagnant energy. Ancient yogis used this mudra to prepare for deep meditation and to connect with the cosmic consciousness.

  1. 1Sit comfortably in a meditative posture with spine straight
  2. 2Rest both hands on your thighs or knees with palms facing upward
  3. 3Gently touch the tip of your middle finger to the tip of your thumb
  4. 4Form a circle with the middle finger and thumb touching
  5. 5Keep the other three fingers (index, ring, and little) extended and relaxed
  6. 6Apply light, gentle pressure
  7. 7Maintain this position with both hands
  8. 8Close your eyes and breathe deeply
  9. 9Visualize infinite space opening within and around you
  10. 10Hold for 15-45 minutes daily for therapeutic effects

Breathing Pattern

Breathe deeply and expansively. With each inhalation, feel space expanding within you. With each exhalation, release any tension or constriction. Allow your awareness to expand into the infinite space of consciousness.
