After fifteen years of peaceful reign, the elders—Dhritarashtra, Gandhari, and Kunti—decide to renounce worldly life and retreat to the forest hermitage. The parva covers their spiritual journey, Vidura's death and mystical transfer of energy, Vyasa granting a vision of the departed warriors, the elders' peaceful death in a forest fire, and Narada's consolation to the Pandavas.
